3 Reasons why you should retain an attorney to fight your traffic ticket

You have been pulled over, issued a traffic ticket and told that you have to appear in court on a certain date and time to answer the charges against you. You have entered a plea of not guilty and now you have the daunting task of going to court alone to fight your ticket by yourself. Should you retain an attorney to fight your traffic ticket? The answer is yes, but there are reasons why that may not be immediately obvious to someone who has never been through the process before. Here are three good reasons why you should hire an attorney to fight your traffic ticket instead of attempting it on your own.

1) First Reason

You are entitled to counsel, which means that even if you don’t have enough money to hire a private lawyer, it is possible for you to receive one. While there may be lawyers who will work on a pro bono basis for defendants who cannot afford legal fees, these people are not likely familiar with fighting traffic tickets. The more dedicated your defense is, the better chance of success that you have.

2) Second Reason

You are too busy. Why Hire Attorney? You may be asking yourself, Why would I hire an attorney when I can represent myself in court? It’s true that most people can successfully represent themselves in court if they have a strong understanding of law and procedure, but most people simply don’t have enough time to do so. To truly defend against even a simple case takes hours of research and preparation.

3) Third Reason

Convictions on traffic violations could lead to higher insurance premiums if it is found out that you have more than one convictions of several types of violations. For example, if you are found guilty for reckless driving, then your insurance company might consider raising its premium on any insurance policies that you have which includes car insurance. If there are two or more incidents which happened within a year, then it would be hard for you to get affordable car insurance policy. Hence, it is highly recommended that if ever charged with reckless driving or any other type of serious offenses, hire a competent attorney who would represent and defend your rights in court.
